In 1957, Budapest is still reeling from the suppression of the uprising against the Communist regime. In a city marked by fear and uncertainty, young Andor sets out in search of the truth about his father, who disappeared in the chaos of recent events. This intimate historical drama observes the world of adults through the eyes of a child trying to understand both the events and the suffocating social atmosphere of the time.
Hungarian director László Nemes, known for his powerful historical dramas Son of Saul (2015), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Sunset (2018), now delivers a compelling film about a postwar society in which personal traumas intertwine with the collective memory of the Hungarian nation.
