The film takes place over a single night across different time zones in five cities around the world — Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki. The main characters are local taxi drivers and their passengers, each forming fleeting yet revealing connections during their shared journeys. Director Jim Jarmusch subtly plays with archetypal characters, genres, and cinematic styles associated with each location. The film weaves together elements of Hollywood storytelling, the New York indie scene, French neo-baroque, Italian farce, and Nordic melancholy, creating a mosaic of cultures, humor, and human interactions.
