Young teacher Juci strives to introduce a new, modern approach to her school, while newcomer Palkó, who has just moved from abroad, struggles with a rigid and unforgiving education system. The clash between conservative and liberal pedagogy becomes a reflection of broader social tensions in Hungary. Bálint Szimler’s debut offers a visually intense and hyper-realistic study of the school environment, where personal stories intertwine with political ideologies. Meticulous psychological observation and claustrophobic framing create a sharp and uncompromising perspective on education in contemporary Hungary. The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival 2024, where it received a special mention in the Cineasti del Presente section.
