Ecstasy is one of the major Czech cinematographic works of the 1930s, starring Hedy Kiesler (Hedy Lamarr). Machatý’s Ecstasy follows his earlier films such as Eroticon (1929) in portraying erotic desires and lovers’ relationships. Supported by Jan Stallich’s photography, Machatý turns the simple story of Eva – a disillusioned, newly-wed daughter of a rich farmer – into a flamboyant visual celebration of passion and work, rich in symbolism and metaphor. The film will be screened with live music by Stroon.
